Shel-Haven Welcomes You

Shel-Haven Canoe Rental is located on the beautiful Manistee River, just 8 miles west of Grayling on M-72.  We are open daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day and on the weekends in spring and fall.  Any other time by appointment.

The Tompkins Family and our experienced crew welcome you.

The Manistee River is very clean, the scenery is beautiful and the trips are the most peaceful you will ever experience.  The wildlife is abundant – deer, ducks, beaver, mink, otter, turkey, and often the majestic bald eagle with their nests close by.

The Manistee River averages 2 to 4 feet deep and the current is moderate.  It is fast enough to carry you with minimal paddling, but slow enough to make it perfect for even the most inexperienced.

The Manistee offers some of the best trout fishing you can find. The season is open from the lst Saturday in April to the last Saturday in September.
Fishing Guides are available.

Welcome to the  webpage of Happi Days Campground!

For those that have never visited our lovely little campground. We are a mom and pop run campground. We can accomodate RVs up to 45 feet and tent campers are always welcome. We are not  an RV resort, we are not located on any lake or river, we do not have a pool or planned activities for your children. We do not have Wi-Fi. We encourage turniing off the technology and truly enjoying the great up north with your friends and family. Have real conversations, tell ghost stories, roast marshmallows over a campfire, relax and rejuvinate. There are so many  fun things to do in the area.

We are located on the ORV route to the trails. We are one of the few campgrounds that will allow you to ride from your site to the trails. YES! You can ride to the trails directly from your campsite, no need to transport your ORVs to another location to ride.

This is truly a sportsmans paradise. We are near the AuSable river, many fishing lakes and hunting spaces. Morels, blackberries, huckleberries and many other wild grown treats are in the woods and fields around here.

We are located in the heart of northern Michigan which makes us the  perfect home base for  day  trips. We are only 8 miles from the quaint little city of Grayling if you would like to plan a canoe trip or visit the downtown galleries and shops.  Only 1 hour from Traverse City (Turtle Creek Casino), 1 hour 45 minutes from the Sleeping Bear Dunes, 1 hour to Mackinaw, 1 hour 30 minutes to Lake Huron shores.

We have 24 water and electric (30 amp) pull-through sites, 5 water and electric(20amp) sites, 9 (20 amp) electric sites , plus a  primitive area froom group tent  camping. There is a modern shower house/bathrooms and a dumpstation. There are open sites and wooded sites available.
We are accepting CASH ONLY right now.
There is an ATM at the B&B gas station in Frederic less that 2  miles away. Sorry for the inconvenience.
